Hope Academy is seeking a highly relational, mission-driven team player to join our Development Team as a Senior Advancement Officer. This person will play a key role in cultivating and stewarding major donor relationships and driving growth as we seek to double student enrollment - and financial sponsorships – by 2035.

The mission of Hope Academy is to foster hope in God within the inner-city neighborhoods of Minneapolis by providing low-income, urban youth with a remarkable, Christ-centered education. To make a private, Christian education affordable for all, 90% of the cost of education is provided by private donations. Hope Academy is currently expanding to serve up to 1,200 students by 2035, all of whom will need significant financial support to attend, and the Senior Advancement Officer will play a key role in this growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Steward a portfolio of 150-175 major donor relationships, including individuals, families, churches, and foundations, with an intentional and genuine donor ministry mindset.
  • Work with Head of Institutional Advancement (HIA) and Advancement team to identify, cultivate, and solicit major donor prospects to meet annual fund, capital, and endowment objectives. 
  • Oversee major foundation partnerships, and work with Grants Manager on foundation strategy, prospecting, and grant applications and reports. 
  • Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, and reports for major donors, highlighting the spiritual and social impact of their contributions and stewarding their generosity with excellence. 
  • Serve as an outstanding ambassador for the mission and values of Hope Academy, including Christ-like character, humility, leadership, and relationships.  
  • Leverage internal and external data, studies, database capabilities, and giving trends to inform, refine, and advance the Development Team’s work.  
  • Spearhead strategic growth into new donor markets, including intentionally working to increase donor diversity and engage donors in a multi-generational approach.
  • Utilize donor management systems and databases to track and report on fundraising progress, donor interactions, and key metrics, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a deep & active Christian faith, and alignment with Hope Academy’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to articulate Hope’s mission and impact in a compelling and inspiring manner.
  • Genuine passion for building relationships with donors and serving as a faithful steward of their generosity, grounded in humility, integrity, and gratitude.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to think creatively, set ambitious goals, and develop effective fundraising strategies to achieve them.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Skilled and experienced.
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in related field.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of charitable giving and/or financial services a plus.
  • Proficiency in database tools and Microsoft office suite (TEAMS, Word, Excel, PPT, etc.).  
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong time and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
